Bread - the Staff of Life

Ah, bread! Without it, where would peanut butter, jelly, cheese, pizza sauce and cheese, be? And, how would we keep our hands clean? Sop gravy? Butter corn? Was there ever a child who doesn't love a nutty butter and jam sammich? Pass the bread, please! : )

Talk about the ultimate comfort food - how about warm buttered home made toast with a spot of tea and jam?

Bread holds a special place in our hearts - it's almost universal. Almost every village, tribe, city, town and burg has it's own varieties of bread, baked, grilled, boiled, steamed, flat, raised, leavened, unleavened.

Many have waxed eloquent about the fluffy innards of bread - and sayings abound with "bread" as the key word. Man does not live by bread alone... but can man live without bread and be happy?

Evidently, not... for bread is the most ubiquitous food in the world.
